The research team at BESTMALZ is delighted to be initiating a special campaign for the first time in an area closely related to brewing: Plant-based proteins have always played an essential role for maltsters and brewers. For some time now, however, this expertise has also been gaining many innovative applications elsewhere.
With the ProteoTech Award 2024, BESTMALZ is honoring innovative business models in the field of plant-based proteins for food production in its 125th anniversary year. Plant-based proteins will have a decisive influence on the future of the food industry – use this opportunity to advance your ideas!
Innovation teams with a feasible business idea in the field of plant-based proteins can take part, whereby proof of technical feasibility, the so-called proof-of-concept, should already have been provided. Business start-ups in Germany or in another country in which BESTMALZ is represented by a trading partner are eligible. The first step is to fill out a questionnaire. After successful screening by the jury, a business plan in German or English should provide detailed information about the approach. All of this is, of course, strictly confidential and subject to appropriate confidentiality agreements.
The winning team will receive a prize of €10,000 as well as support from BESTMALZ for synergies with research approaches at the long-established Heidelberg-based company. There is also the possibility of contributing growth capital and access to BESTMALZ’s international partner network.
The competition runs in several stages: First, you have the opportunity to fill out a questionnaire available at www.bestmalz.de/en/proteotech-award/ by October 31, 2024. This should briefly describe the research topic or business approach. Then, in the preliminary round, qualified participant teams will submit their business plan after signing a confidentiality agreement. The final round will take place in December 2024, in which the top 3 finalists will present themselves to the jury via video conference. Our expert jury is made up of scientists, business decision-makers and researchers in the field of plant-based foods and proteins.
