Recap: Mashing-in for BestBrewChallenge 2026

All over the world brewers mashed-in their BEST Dark Wheat Beer last week, including creativity and the passion of craftsmanship.

A total of 158 brewers, mostly from Europe, registered for this year’s challenge and took on the task of brewing a dark wheat beer.

During this intensive week, numerous individual interpretations of the beer style emerged—characterized by different styles, approaches, and ideas. This year, BESTMALZ looked over the shoulders of Uwe Kleinhans and Markus Lanninger from Hannes Bräu in Viernheim/Germany (near Heidelberg) as they brewed their dark wheat beer.

The brewing week was accompanied by lively interaction on social media. Many participants shared their impressions, brewing moments, and results via their accounts. These posts were compiled and made visible to everyone via a social wall on www.bestbrewchallenge.com — offering a vibrant glimpse into the diversity and dynamism of the community.

Now the BestBrewChallenge is moving into its next phase: The deadline for submitting beers is June 15, 2026.

The BESTMALZ team is eagerly looking forward to the coming weeks and can’t wait to taste the submitted beers. We’d like to thank all participants in advance for their dedication, enthusiasm, and the many impressions they’ve shared—the BestBrewChallenge thrives because of you!
