Based on the first reliable barley acreage figures (IACS data) and crop estimates supplied by the malting barley associations of the German federal states, the Germany Malting Barley Association has now compiled an up-to-date report of the current state of malting barley cultivation in Germany.
Based on seed sales and initial estimates in the state malting barley promotion associations in Germany, the Braugersten-Gemeinschaft e.V. expects a spring barley area of around 350,000 ha, which corresponds to a decline in acreage of around 4% compared to the previous year.
Traditionally, the month of March marks the start of the German spring barley growing season.
BEST A-XL is a malt made from the traditional German barley variety Alexis. “It was approved for beer brewing in Germany in 1986 and was the standard brewing barley in Europe for many years.
Considering the extreme weather conditions in the spring and summer of the German 2022 crop year, the most recent malting-quality barley harvest turned out relatively well.
